Keepin' Cool

Phew!

Spring seems almost certainly over and Summer is definitely making its presence felt.
It is heating up like crazy -they say it reached 37 degrees C today here in Sydney and boy, was I sweltering...

To minimize the heat, I've tried a number of things (since unfortunately neither my parents' place in Harbord or my boyfriend's in Croydon have air-conditioning...) to cool down.
  • making lemonade! by: combining equal amounts of lemon juice + caster sugar, microwaving it for about two minutes, adding a couple of tablespoons to cold water and ice cubes. deliiicious.
  • drinking copious amounts of iced water
  • walking through air-conditioned buildings to get to class at uni instead of walking outside
  • surrounding myself with miniature frozen cold packs, until they melt, or placing them inside my t-shirt
  • taking quick, cold shower
  • taking up residence in front of the fan or in deliciously cool air conditioned trains
  • fanning myself desperately with a piece of paper or with my hands
  • lying in wait, hoping it will storm and break the heat
  • sleeping with no doona, just a sheet
  • ice-cream, ice-cream, ice-cream! if there's ever been a better time for it.. if i had those make-at-home ice pole sticks, I would probably be making frozen fruit juice.. mmm.
Some of these have been fairly successful, some ... less so.
How do you keep cool these summer days?
